Recognizing the need to educate the growing number of people in our country, Madras University is offering both Under Graduate and Post Graduate programs through IDE (Institute of Distance Education. The National Accreditation & Assessment Council has bestowed a five star rating for the University due to its excellent prospects as far as results is concerned. The distant education, courses for the Open University program and Correspondence courses for undergraduates offered are Historical Studies, Vaishnavism, Public Administration, Christian Studies, Tamil Literature, Geography, Medical Sociology, Psychology, Hotel Management, Textile and Fashion Designing besides many others. Similarly the Post Graduate courses include Master of Arts in Anthropology, Arabic, History, applied linguistics, Sociology, music, Indian Philosophy, Sanskrit, criminal justice and many more.
Another feature of Madras University is its admission procedure that includes taking an entrance exam which is held annually. Students are selected based on their previous studies and record along with the results of the admission test conducted by the university or any such equivalent university. Students are supposed to score qualifying scores in their respective examinations to qualify for admission. For the Under Graduate program there should be a time gap of two years after the students have successfully passed Class 12 from any school and he/she should be equipped with all required higher education documents along with the application form.
