Madras University Distance Education admission in all the 78 courses is made all round the year in two streams viz. Calendar Year Admission and Academic Year Admission. The schedule for the Madras University Distance Education Admission 2017 is:

  • Last date for filling in of Application forms for 2017-18 Academic year—31 Oct 2017
  • Last date for filling in of Application forms for 2018 Calendar year—31 March 2018

Admissions can also be done through Authorized Spot Admission or through the Study Centers. IDE currently has over 1,60,000 students on their distance education roll. There are 30 Spot Admission Centers found all over Tamil Nadu, 50 Study Centers all over the country along with 11 Overseas Study Center catering to students all over.

The best feature of IDE is that the students are given printed learning materials and are given access to personal contact programs. There are a multitude of study centers both in India and abroad where the students can attend classes or contact programs.

If you apply for admission in person, the application fee is Rs.100/ to be paid in cash at Institute, Study centers or the Spot Admission Centers within Tamil Nadu. If you wish to get the form by post, the application fee is Rs. 150/ by making a Demand Draft in favor of The Director, IDE, Madras University.

For those candidates who wish to apply online for Madras University distance education admission are required to Log in or apply online. You can download the Application form from the Madras University Website. The cost of the application form is Rs. 100/ if you download it from the website.

Lateral Entry Admission

Candidates who desire to take lateral admission to second/third year Undergraduate courses are required to attach two copies of the syllabus attested by the Principal or the Head of the Department, both for first/second year of study from the earlier College or University they have studied in. A Transfer Certificate or a Course completion certificate along with all academic certificates also has to be provided at the time of admission.

The Madras University authorities have discretionary rights as regards admission to residents of the country for all courses offered by the Institute. Candidates have to pass the specific qualification examination for admission, the details of which are specified in the Information Brochure.
